Black-Owned Tampa Pharmacy Bridging the Gap Between African Americans and Vaccinations

Health Matters Pharmacy in Tampa is working to promote and schooling minorities on getting the COVID-19 vaccine

The owner grew up along with East Tampa and needs to help her hometown community

“There’s a lot of things which have happened in years past like them being discriminated against in the medical system, so they’re extremely leery,” explained Dr. Jamaris Glenn of Health Matters Enough. “That’s the reason as a Black person it’s great to be able to teach them on their options.”
Everyone over the age of 16 in the state of Florida can register to their COVID-19 vaccination. Though, the proprietor of Health Matters Pharmacy, Dr. Vondyln Wright, stated that minorities and young folks are among the least likely to find the shot.
“That’s why I needed this pharmacy here in this scenic Tampa neighborhood,” said Dr. Wright. “This place does not have a lot of funds and I wanted to ensure we had been a part of the solution.”
Dr. Wright grew up in a metropolitan East Tampa community and was very skeptical about getting her schooling and coming back into that identical community to provide help.
“We are here. We’re not a pop-up store.
Health Matters Pharmacy first opened their doors last Monday and have as handled over 200 Legislation shots to this community. Quante Ferguson was among these people. He explained that when his parents chose to receive their vaccination shot, he followed suit.
“I believe we simply should recognize that in this present climate, we can not be last in the race,” explained Ferguson. “If you have any hiccups or doubts, do your research but I believe at the end of the day, then I think that it’s the very best thing to do.”
Ferguson acquired a Johnson and Johnson vaccination shot at the Health Matter centre.
“Pharmacists are the backbone of medication. We study it, we groom it, we deal with a lot of the experimental procedure of this,” explained Dr. Glenn. “So understanding that we’re able to administer it to our own people and become part of history, is a fantastic thing.”
