“It’s unfortunate that we must generate some very tough decisions,” Davis informed Spectrum Bay News 9 on Tuesday.

County high schools can have the hardest hit.
Davis said some staff and teachers have been educated, and more will learn that week they’re losing their own jobs.
But many of the affected workers may have the ability to move to other positions that available throughout retirement and attrition, according to Davis.
“We typically hire between 1100-1200 positions yearly, meaning we may have the ability to maintain the vast majority of the folks inside our school district,” Davis said. “We simply will not have fresh hires transition to Hillsborough County unless it is hard-to-fill places”
It’s not clear yet which departments will lose the most employees.
“We shall never eliminate a schedule,” Davis stated. “We’ll always have music, art and PE in each of our elementary schools.”
Davis stated middle and high school cuts will be contingent upon student interest and registration.
“That’s all based on course requirements and needs by our pupils and what our students aspire to choose,” Davis stated. “Thus, we must make certain we protect programs which our students are interested whatsoever”
Davis worked with principals to find areas where there may be overstaffing. That’s likely to save the district approximately $80 million.
Davis stated this ought to be the previous round of school-based cuts, and positions will also be eliminated at the district administrative offices.
“I understand it is difficult,” Davis stated. “And as a superintendent coming in, among the last things we wish to do is cut positions at our schools, but our backs against the walls .”
